Division of Horticulture


Horticulture division deals with crop production technologies for Fruits, Vegetables, Plantation crops, Ornamental & Flower crops, Spices & Condiments, Medicinal and Aromatic plants, Integrated farming system, Organic Horticulture and Certification etc., to the farming community.

Activities

1. Need based training programmes conducted on different field crops for Practicing Farmers, Farm Women and Rural Youth

  • Integrated crop management practices (ICM) for fruits viz., Banana, Mango, Guava, Pomegranate, Sapota, Acid lime, Jack, Jamun, Papaya and Pine Apple
  • ICM practices in Vegetables viz., Small Onion, Tapioca, Chillies, Tomato, Brinjal, Bellary Onion, Raddish, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Beetroot, Carrot, Annual Moringa, Curryleaf and Amaranthus
  • ICM practices in Spices & Condiments viz., Turmeric, Pepper, Clove, Cardamom, Nutmeg, Coriander and Mint
  • ICM practices in Flower Crops viz., Rose, Jasmine, Tuberose, Neerium, Marigold, Chrysanthemum and Ixora
  • ICM practices in Plantation Crops viz., Arecanut and Coffee
  • ICM practices in Medicinal and Aromatic Plants
  • Poly house cultivation of Vegetables & Flower Crops
  • Propagation and nursery management in Vegetables, Fruits, Ornamental & Flower Crops
  • Integrated farming system for different ecosystem in Namakkal district
  • Organic horticulture
  • Roof top gardening in vegetable crops
  • Ornamental gardening

2. Training programmes of innovative technologies conducted to Extension Functionaries for dissemination of technologies among the farmers

  • Canopy management and crop regulation techniques in horticultural crops
  • High Density planting in fruits & vegetable crops
  • Off season cultivation of vegetables

4. Special activities

  • Implementation of Technology Demonstration Components (TDC) in Crop modules viz., drought mitigation technologies in small onion, cucurbits & jasmine in NICRA scheme at Vadavathur & Jambumadai village funded by CRIDA, Hyderabad.
  • Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode developed between KVK, farmers & other stakeholders for production and supply of planting materials of fruits, vegetables, tuber crops, spices and other inputs of horticultural crops mainly micronutrient mixtures for vegetables, banana & mango
